ABOUT

The Ahanga Health Foundation is a non-government organization based in Kampala, Uganda.

We are committed to supporting parents and babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and beyond.

VISION

A world where every preterm baby survives and thrives, being supported to reach their God given potential.

MISSION

To support preterm babies, their families and NICUs to reduce preventable deaths and health conditions, giving these babies a fair chance to live and thrive.

GOAL

Every preterm family is supported and every NICU readied, so every preterm baby survives their first critical days and lives a long, fulfilling life.

THE NEED

22

newborn deaths
per 1,000 live
births

23%

Deaths due to
prematurity

0

Specialized neonatal
care nurses, and only
3 neonatologists
across all facilities
assessed

Inadequate functional
CPAP machines,
patient monitors,
phototherapy machines
and radiant warmers

The evidence points clearly to quality-of-care gaps; in resuscitation capacity, equipment functionality, human resource availability and care coordination rather than access alone.

The window to achieve SDG 3.2, a neonatal mortality rate of 12 per 1,000 births by 2030, is narrow.
